I began my construction "career" at the age of six by helping my parents build a new house in Pilsen, Czech Republic. I was in charge of hauling sand in my little orange toy truck.
Later, I entered trades school and spent my summers working with my uncle, a skilled and much-respected bricklayer. In 1988, I received my bricklayer's degree and shortly afterwards I tiled my first bathroom. After working for a few years on building renovations, I realized that I needed more education and was accepted to the Civil Engineering Faculty of the Czech Technical University in Prague, where I graduated in 2000.
My wife, Kamila, and I moved to Almonte, Ontario, in July 2001. I began working on the Thoburn Mill redevelopment in September 2002 as part of the team led by Bill Fulton, working for Stephen Brathwaite. The Thorburn Mill redevelopment was designed by well-know, local architect Peter Mansfield (www.pmansfieldarchitect.ca).
I also worked on the renovation of the Old Post Office (a National Heritage site) and the renovation of the former Bank at 78 Mill Street into a new cafe and gallery.
In 2006, we went back to Europe where I worked as a project manager for a company specializing in heritage and historical building renovations.
After returning to Canada in the summer of 2009, I returned to the Thorburn Mill project where I was part of the team of craftsmen turning the original commercial spaces into custom condominiums, including custom brickwork and tiling.
Now I am operating my own company specializing in tile installations, bathroom and kitchen renovations and other challenging projects.
My wife and I are happy to be part of the great Almonte community, and I take pride in the services I can offer the citizens of Lanark Township, Mississippi Mills, Ottawa, Kanata, Barrhaven, Perth, Carleton Place and surrounding area.
